Saginaw business owners planning to renovate their space could benefit from the Match on Main Grant program, a program that awarded the READ Association $25,000 in 2022.

The Match on Main program is a reimbursement grant of up to $25,000 offered by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and supported through Saginaw Future, Inc., for small businesses who are undergoing major renovation projects in main street areas such as Downtown and Old Town Saginaw.  The maximum grant awarded is $25,000 and the business must match 10% of the total grant. So if the business receives $25,000 to fund their project, they must contribute an additional $2,500 towards the project.

The following are a few more stipulations of the grant:

  • You can not begin the project before the grant is submitted. Any cost incurred before the application is submitted is not eligible for reimbursement.
  • The project must be completed within six months of the grant agreement execution. This would be after the grant is awarded.
  • MEDC is looking for applications that include interior work and exterior activation of an underutilized space.

Application requirements:

  • Completed application
  • Project cost estimates form a third-Party that reflect total private investment. Private investment includes any non-match on main funds that will be leveraged to implement the project within 6-months of an executed grant agreement. All costs associated with the proposed project should be reflected in the required third-party cost estimates.
  • A minimum of three photos that represent the scope of the Match on Main request. This should include at least one exterior photo and at least one photo of the interior of the space.

To apply, you must complete the online form by Friday, February 17, 2023 at midnight.

For questions about the Match on Main program, contact Steve Hensley at shensley@saginawfuture.com or 989-757-2107.
