High school basketball tournament action for the young men begins Monday night, March 6, and continues this week. Did you know Metro Saginaw is home to the greatest shot (and coach reactions) in MHSAA history, back in 1986? Chris Coles.
We miss the Buena Vista High Knights at this time of year, but time moves on.
Now that we have your attention, here’s the 2023 district schedule:
- In Division 1 at Swartz Creek, Arthur Hill faces the host school at 7 p.m. tonight. Winner meets Heritage, 7 p.m. Wednesday.
- In Division 2 at Carrrollton High, the Saginaw High Trojans possibly could face the host Cavaliers if both make the finals. Wednesday kickoffs are 5:30 p.m. for SHS and 7 p.m. for CHS. Finals are at 7 p.m. Friday. Old-timers will note that local population bases for sure have changed.
- In Division 2 at Caro High, Bridgeport High is the favorite in a field that also includes Clio, Birch Run, Frankenmuth. The Bearcats open at 7 p.m. Wednesday against either ‘Muth or Clio.
The young ladies began a week earlier. Freeland, Hemlock and Frankenmuth are sending teams to this week’s regionals. The Nouvel girls won their first game of the year in their district, 28-26 over Bay City All Saints, after losing 20 in a row during the regular season.
- In Division 3 at Hemlock, SASA challenges the host school on Monday at 5:30 p.m. Nouvel Catholic meets the winner at the same time Wednesday. Valley Lutheran also is in the field, along with St. Charles and Reese.
