Saginaw Township’s Heritage High, Bridgeport High and Nouvel Catholic Central all have advanced to the boys’ basketball district finals, with games scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, March 10.

And also Saginaw High versus Carrollton High?

Local basketball fans never would have imagined such a matchup. The Trojans represented a far larger enrollment, Class A all the way, while the Cavaliers mostly have been Class C.

But communities have changed. Carrollton High, which will host Friday’s District 2 (Class B) matchup, now is the slightly larger school with 510 pupils, while Saginaw High has 463.

Bridgeport also is in Division 2 with a headcount of 609. The Bearcats on Friday will head for Caro to compete for a district crown against Birch Run High.

Heritage High now is the local mainstay with 1,592 students. The Hawks defeated Arthur Hill (enrollment 775) in the Division 1 semis, 60-53, and will challenge Flint Carman-Ainsworth in the District title game.

Nouvel is in Division 3 with 192 pupils. The Panthers face Reese on Friday at the Hemlock High gym.
