Don’t fight; ride bikes instead

“Pedal for Peace” begins at noon Saturday at the splash park near the old wave pool location, as Tyrell Brown’s Bike Life Saginaw group continues nearly a decade of something-to-do activities.

Fun and fitness are the mainstays, but Brown says Pedal for Peace and other community bicycling events also maintain positive outlooks even during times when hardships and tragedies may seem to overwhelm us, like a combined festival and peace march at the same time.

“Riding bikes takes us back to childhood,” notes Brown, a STARS bus driver who also operates his own airbrush enterprise.

Anyone of any age or cycling experience may take part. Tyrell is charting an 8-mile route designed for ease on the foot pedals. This isn’t like racing in the Tour de France. A comfortable pace will keep the group together.

“It is not difficult,” he explains. “The voice that I’m speaking with now is the same as if I was riding alongside you.”

In other words, no excessive huffing and puffing.

A comparison can be made to Chuckie Lawrence and his “Peace in the Community” first annual Hoyt Park kickball festival last summer, which will be expanded to “Peace Weekend” Aug. 18-20.

In fact, Chuckie made a visit to Tyrell’s Facebook page to help with promoting Saturday’s Pedal for Peace.

He wrote, “Where them riders? Where those ones that want to see us move as a community? Where them fixed up sexy bikes at?? Oil them chains! Stretch them hamstrings!! And let’s go SAGINAW!! Let’s have some fun and fellowship this Saturday!!”
