Houghton-Jones hosts food collection

A community food drive for donated items is slated Tuesday through Thursday, July 18-20, from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The dropoff site is the Christina Jones Neighborhood Resource Center, 1708 Johnson at North 11th.

While the Houghton-Jones Neighborhood Association is best know for advocacy and youth programming, including a pair of teen-run Youth Farm Stand vegetable gardens, the group also offers a “mini-pantry” for when emergencies occur beyond the immediate scope of the larger agencies, soup kitchens and food providers.

Boundaries are surrounding the former Houghton and Jones elementary schools between I-675 and Perkins street, but anyone is welcome to volunteer and to participate.
