Saginaw LLEAD, Latino Leaders for the Enhancement of Advocacy and Development, will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday to update activities and to continue recruiting citizens who aim for a stronger, better, more united community.

The location is the East Side Soup Kitchen at 940 East Genesee with a complimentary dinner provided by Sombrero’s restaurant. LLEAD is a statewide organization with Saginaw serving as one of the original local chapters. Membership is free of charge and all that is asked is for supporters to donate their time and effort. Everyone involved is a volunteer.

Tasks that the group is tackling are wide across the spectrum, often to make sure that Latinos are included in the bigger picture. Saginaw LLEAD already has collaborated with local sources to support a health fair and a jobs fair. Another example on Thursday’s agenda is collecting and distributing bilingual children’s books. Nearly 100 families already have signed up to receive these donated items, which indicates a strong start and a need to expand the effort even farther.

Chairwoman Christiana Malacara is a professional marketing and promotion specialist who views an opportunity to build “growth of the culture” in Saginaw. She is joined by Angelo Kapp as vice-chair; Vanessa Guerra, the county clerk, as secretary; and Ramon Teneyuque as treasurer.
