Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital will host the annual Human Trafficking in Mid-Michigan Conference on Tuesday, Jan. 16, from 1-5 p.m. The conference, presented by the Mid-Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force, will be held at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital Health Education Center, 800 S. Washington Avenue, Saginaw.

Chris Swanson

This year’s featured speaker is Genesee County Sheriff, Chris Swanson, of the Genesee Human Oppression Strike Team (G.H.O.S.T.) Initiative.

Breakout sessions will include topics of Human Trafficking 101, Human Trafficking for Health Care Professionals, Trauma Informed Care, Adverse Childhood Experiences in Human Trafficking, Recovery Services, Social Media Safety, and Labor Trafficking.

The conference is open to concerned community members, healthcare professionals, parents, educators, service providers and anyone interested in learning about human trafficking and how to assist in the fight against it.

The Mid-Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force was developed by Underground Railroad in 2012, in collaboration with the Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force. The task force is made up of social service agencies, law enforcement, religious-based groups and community activists dedicated to preventing human trafficking in Mid-Michigan and the surrounding communities.

The event is free and open to the public. Advanced registration is encouraged at MidMichiganHumanTraffickingConference2024.eventbrite.com.
