To win a district basketball championship places a team among the top 20 percent, with opportunities to rise even higher.

Saginaw High and Bridgeport High captured districts on Friday night, March 10, and will advance to a possible Division 2 (Class B) showdown in the regionals.

The Trojans visited the Carrollton High gym and departed Saginaw’s northern neighbor with a 73-38 trouncing of the Cavs, while Bridgeport thumped Birch Run, 83-34, at a neutral Caro site. The Bearcats big challenge was in the semis, 38-37 over Frankenmuth.

Nouvel Catholic Central nipped Reese, 67-63, to earn its third straight district crown in Division 3 (Class C).

In Division 1, Heritage High fell to Flint Carman-Ainsworth, 78-52, after eliminating Arthur Hill in the semis, 60-53.
