Gospel Fest relies on volunteer time and funds

This is the 22nd year for Gospel Fest, set for August 6th at Ojibway Island. Pride and optimism are part of the process, even enjoyment, but there also are pins and needles. Will we find a sufficient number of volunteers, and will we round up the funds we need for a high-quality showcase to enrich and inspire our audience?

Gospel Fest

Our winning record through the years has been 21-and-0, with the planning and the execution and the weather. We always are in need of volunteers and sponsors. Simply give me a call, (989) 737-8179, or send me a Facebook note or an email at gospelladyvh@yahoo.com, and I will listen and help you find a place on our team.

This could be as simple as volunteering to help clean up Ojibway after the event is finished, which is like giving both time and money, because otherwise City Hall would charge us extra to perform the task.

Our scheduled headliner this summer arrives from Memphis, Lisa Knowles-Smith & the Brown Singers, along with Detroiter John Houston with his gospel and R&B flavors and Saginaw’s own Pastor Ronnie Bryant with Prayed Up. Hopefully we will add more to offer as the date approaches.

Vendor spaces are available for food, $150, and for general merchandise, $100. Nonprofit service organizations are welcome free-of-charge. Parking on the Ojibway drive is available for this special event.

Our volunteers are tremendous, but the same as any organization, we always need to replenish. You can enjoy the show and help out at the same time. I eagerly await your calls to enlist in this worthy cause.

Vicki Hill grew up singing in church choirs and then enlisted in Jerry Redeemer’s Saginaw Valley Mass Choir. Radio personalities Dante Toussaint and Kermit Crockett encouraged her to take to the airwaves, and she never has turned back with her popular Sunday-morning gospel radiocast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on KISS 107 FM. Vicki also is vice-president of Women of Colors Inc., which offers an array of community outreach activities.
