Becker’s Hospital Review, a leading healthcare industry news source, has named Stephanie Duggan, MD, FACEP, FAAPL, CPE, among its 177 Women Hospital Presidents and CEOs to Know. Dr. Duggan was acknowledged for her strong leadership across a broad geographic region, implementation of best practices for patient safety and quality care, and strategic growth initiatives.
Dr. Duggan has served as president and CEO of Ascension Michigan’s northernmost hospitals since 2018, including Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, Ascension Standish Hospital in Standish and Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Tawas City.
As a vibrant, quality-driven servant leader, Dr. Duggan’s primary responsibilities are focused on strategic growth, business partnerships, clinical program development, talent development and retention, quality and fiscal outcomes, and community reputation, engagement and advocacy. She has been instrumental in recent growth initiatives including the expansion of the emergency care center at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital and facilitating a partnership with Covenant HealthCare for emergency air medical transportation provided through Ascension St. Mary’s FlightCare.
A board-certified emergency medicine physician, Dr. Duggan began her career at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw in 1997. Prior to returning to Michigan in 2018, she served as chief clinical officer at Ascension St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Before that, she held various leadership positions at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida, including chief medical officer, interim pharmacy medical director and interim emergency department director.
Dr. Duggan earned her medical degree and completed her residency at Wayne State University. She has received numerous awards and recognitions during her career and served on many national, state and local boards. She currently serves as chair of the board of directors of the American Association of Physician Leaders. Dr. Duggan served as vice chair and is now chair of the Michigan Health and Hospital Association Legislative Policy Panel. She also serves as a board member for the Saginaw County Board of Public Health, Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce and Saginaw Promise.
