Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church of Saginaw is set to kick off Black History Month with special guest Justice Kyra Bolden Harris. Justice Bolden, who became the first Black woman to serve on the Michigan Supreme Court, will be recognized during the church’s Black history observance kickoff at 10 a.m. on February 4, in their sanctuary located at 810 Cathay St.
“It is an honor to host and recognize members of our community that are making history each day,” says senior pastor Rev. Blake Strozier. “Justice Bolden serves as an example to many in our community that you can truly be whatever you set your mind to do. I hope that my daughters will be able to use her as motivation whenever they feel doubtful of their future.”
In 2022, Justice Bolden ran for one of two seats on the bench, but came in third behind incumbents Richard Bernstein and Brian Zahra. Shortly after the election, Whitmer selected Bolden to replace sitting justice Bridget Mary McCormack, who retired.
