Students from across the Great Lakes Bay Region and even statewide have applied for a chance to receive one or more of the 245+ scholarships Saginaw Community Foundation offers. The Foundation is now seeking community members to help review the scholarship applications.
Beginning in March, volunteers will review applications and score the students in 10 different areas – such as leadership, volunteer service, extracurricular activities and essays – according to the provided guidelines. All of SCF’s scholarship applications are reviewed and scored online.
“The review process can be completed in just a couple of hours,” said Chamika Ford, scholarship program officer at Saginaw Community Foundation. “Volunteers will review applications from home whenever it is convenient. We allow volunteers about two weeks to complete the entire process.”
To assure fairness, every student is reviewed by five volunteers and the scores are averaged.
“Volunteers come back year after year to help us review the applications,” Ford said. “They love learning about the amazing youth we have in our community and knowing they played a part in helping them earn scholarships.”
