Coming this spring, you’ll be able to access library services on the M.O.V.e! Our new Mobile Outreach Vehicle arrived in December 2022 and will make its debut as the weather warms up.

You’ll soon start seeing the M.O.V.e around town at community events and making stops in areas that might not have convenient access to one of our library branches. We’re excited to get it on the road.

The M.O.V.e was purchased with a 2022 American Rescue Plan Act equipment grant through the Library of Michigan. Funding is provided in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library of Michigan.

Have you always wanted to research your family’s history, but weren’t sure how to begin? This is the class for you!

The Family History for Beginners class is offered by the Local History and Genealogy department at Hoyt on Saturday, February 11 at 9:30 a.m. We will cover traditional and online research techniques that genealogists use, in terms that even novices will understand.

Register online or call (989) 755-9827.

Have you ever been on a great blind date? What about a Blind Date with a Book?

Blind Date with a Book

Throughout February, you’ll be seeing displays of wrapped books in the adult collections of all four of our library branches. (Hoyt, Butman-Fish, Hess, Zauel). We’ll give you a few hints of what each book is about, but you won’t be able to see the cover, title or author before you decide to check it out.

Be adventurous and read something outside the box this month with this fun program. Who knows? You might even find a book to help you complete a square on your Winter Reading Challenge bingo card! Remember, you have until March 4 to complete the challenge and return your reading record.

Maria McCarville has served as director for Public Libraries of Saginaw since 2015. Like virtually all librarians, she loves to read, but she encourages library patrons to check out services “beyond the books,” anything from in-person for family history or old newspapers, or online to view movies and much more.
